  • The best definition of a civil ceremony is that it’s a non-religious marriage between two people.

    The main thing that sets it apart from a traditional church wedding is the lack of religion, the vicar or priest, is replaced by a registrar.

    It’s still completely legal and you’ll sign the local marriage register and have a marriage certificate.

    There’s just no religious involvement at all.

    Barlaston Hall is a registered Wedding Venue for Civil Ceremonies, and you have have your wedding celebration a the church afterwards.

  • A Civil wedding cannot have any religious elements including hymns.

    You are able to have your favourite song playing, have musicians eg a harpist, pianist, a string quartet or a choir! The key thing to note is they aren’t able to play religious music.

    Also any readings, must be free of obvious specific religious connotations.

  • Only if you want to have a legally registered marriage.

    If it’s a renewal of vows or just a Wedding Celebration - no problem.

  • Registrars have the power to marry you in the eyes of the law.

    Celebrants will help you create a personalised bespoke ceremony, taking place wherever you want.

    You can include personalised vows, live music and family.

  • For your ceremony, the church pews will sit 70 - 80 comfortably.

    If you wish to hold a celebration dinner or lunch at St John’s, we can sit up to 120.

  • We are!

    All creatures great and small - as long as it fits though the door of the church your pet is more than welcome.

  • Talk to us we will be able to advise on the best transportation and parking solution for your needs.

    We have secure off-road parking minutes away from the church.

  • The church and facilities are wheelchair friendly.

  • The nearest station in Stone, and there is a mainline stations at Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford train stations. With Taxies at all stations.

  • Yes, because the pews at St John’s are moveable the space is completely flexible.

    We can configure the space to suit your needs.

    The surrounding grounds around the church are ideal for team-building events, such as a treasure hunt or orienteering or even a family fun day.

    We'd love to help you host your special event.

    We can cater for up to 100 for a sit-down meal, 120 for an informal buffet-style gathering or, weather permitting a garden party or BBQ outside on the grounds of the Barlaston Estate or in a marquee.
